What Happened to Patrick Swayze’s Wife Lisa?
Despite all the googley-eyed fans, with their love letters and wishes for him to be single, Swayze has remained fully committed to his wife Lisa for over 34 years. The couple have made it through the majority of their lives together, thriving in their love for each other until his death in 2009. One of the main keys of their success was their ability to keep their relationship private, but they were very professional in handling the media.
About Swayze
Patrick Swayze was one of the most popular actors during the 80s. He was best known for his role as the dance teacher Johnny in the iconic 1987 film Dirty Dancing. He also had one of Hollywood’s most impressive careers, becoming an A-list actor. He was lucky enough to meet the love of his life at just 19 years old at the Houston Ballet Dance Company.
Patrick and Lisa’s Married Life
The two began dating and got married on June 12, 1975, moving to New York to pursue their dance careers until the late 1970s, when they moved to Los Angeles. On the side of dancing and filmmaking, they operated a construction business and raised horses together, ju not children.
In 1985, Lisa bought 5-acre homestead near the Angeles National forest with a “menagerie of dogs, prized Arabian horses and rodeo cattle. She also bought a 20,000-acre ranch in New Mexico.
In the early 2000s, Patrick and Lisa founded a production company together and also acted alongside each other in the 2003 film, One Last Dance.
But shortly after Swayze was diagnosed with his cancer, Lisa obtained her pilot’s license and began flying Patrick to his cancer treatments before his death.
What Happened to Lisa After Patrick’s Death
After Patrick died of pancreatic cancer in 2009, she said goodbye to her acting career. Just a few short weeks later, she published her biography The Time of My Life in which she wrote with Swayze before he died. She then became the Chief Ambassador of Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network as well as was made a Dame of the Royal Order of Francis I of the Two Sicilies in 2011.
Her book also became a New York Times Best Seller and she published another book in 2012, Worth Fighting For which also became a best seller. Together, Patrick and Lisa bred, raised and loved horses, a hobby that Lisa continues to pursue today.
Finally on December 28th, 2013 she became engaged to a jeweler named Albert DePrisco. The couple then wed on May 25, 2014 and moved to Florida where they currently reside today.
Swayze’s Documentary
Despite her move away from fame, Lisa is still interviewed every now and then. One specific USA Today article discussed Patrick Swayze’s recent documentary, I Am Patrick Swayze, that just came out in 2019. Lisa explained his mom was very strict and abusive with him for over 30 years.
The documentary involved interviews of his loved ones and those who knew him best, discussing the details of his life and personality.
